Category: Floor Jack
What We Like
- Low profile
- Steel/aluminum combination
- Lift height
What We Don’t Like
- Lack of availability
- Overall weight
The Arcan ALJ3T is not only a very serviceable 3-ton floor jack, it’s lighter than many of the classic, all-steel jacks of the past (and some current), weighing in at 56 pounds, in the same range as many of the new aluminum jacks.
It also features dual-pump pistons, with a wide lifting range (3.6” to 19.4”). This range also helps it compare favorably to others in its class. You’ll also benefit from dust shields on the pistons, with overload and bypass valves as part of the design.
Arcan ALJ3T Aluminum 3 Ton Floor Jack REVIEW
With its wide lifting range and durable construction, the ALJ3T will be just right for the serious home-garage mechanic and should serve a shop professional well for lifting lighter vehicles (cars, small pickup trucks).
There are very few individuals in these two categories who wouldn’t benefit from having this jack, as it seems to hold up very well with consistent use and is a veteran in this class, as some customers have been using one for five years or more. The smooth operation and dependability have made it possible to maintain the model with few, if any, changes.
Who is this product for?
Judging from the design and the lifting class, this is an ideal jack for the do-it-yourself home mechanic who needs to invest in a tool for the long term. As mentioned, even the shop pro will find this Arcan jack to be a welcome addition. As with others in the category, this might not be enough for the expert who works on heavier vehicles and in the diesel truck world. It’s at the upper end of the price range for aluminum jacks, so you’ll be able to find a unit that’s cheaper. However, the individual who doesn’t mind spending a bit more for something better, this will deliver long-term performance. With that in mind, it should be a good investment. As for ease of use, even the beginner will have little difficulty following unpacking/assembly instructions and starting to use the ALJ3T right away.
You’ll find the ALJ3T is similar in construction to other jacks in its category, with high-quality aluminum construction, rubber saddle pad, and those excellent side handles for easy transport around the shop. The handle has the important foam cover to protect your vehicle, and you’ll also benefit from the durable metal wheels (caster design in the back). You’ll find the short-and-sweet version of assembly instructions, which should be sufficient even for the first-time user. This is a lightweight jack, so you’ll be able to lift it out of the box with little effort, thanks to the side handles. You won’t need much in the way of tools to get this jack in operation. Snap the two-piece handle together (spring-loaded button).
Tighten the handle in place with the handy thumb-screw at the back. Pressure release to lower the jack is built into the handle. A simple turn will release the pressure and the pad and arm lower slowly into original position.
Overview of features
Of course, the obvious feature here is the 6,000-pound lift capacity (3 tons). You’ll feel secure with the Arcan’s dependable bypass and overload valves, as well as the nice feature of dust shields to keep the pistons and fluid from becoming contaminated.Moving about the garage or shop is easy enough with the weight of 56 pounds. The side handles are more than handy for moving this jack around. Lift range is excellent (just under 4 inches to more than 19 inches). Overall size is 30” x 13.5” x 8” The low profile of the ALJ3T is excellent for working under lower vehicles, such as sports cars.
How to use this floor jack
As with other products made by Power Station, you’ll find assembly is very easy. In fact, there are only a few steps to the process. Once you open the box, you’ll find the two parts of the handle, which can be put together quickly. Just insert the top, foam-covered piece into the lower tube and use the spring-loaded button to hold them together. You will probably have to release the yoke/handle socket by putting slight pressure on the unit and removing the wire holding it in place during transport. Keep slight pressure on the yoke to allow it to return to its starting position. Use the thumb screw at the back to tighten the handle in place. You’ll also have the basic instructions to follow as you begin to use the jack.
If you’ve purchased the Arcan ALJ3T, you probably won’t need another shop/garage jack, unless it’s time to move to a unit with a lot more lifting power. This might be necessary for bigger vehicles, but this jack will be fine for most average-sized vehicles.
Almost every DIY individual and many professionals will get fine service from this jack. While it might be best for cars and lighter trucks, you should be able to lift your SUV with it as well. The price will be about right for those who want a quality jack with the lighter weight of aluminum, though the price of quality floor jacks has increased significantly in recent years.
