Everyone dreams of being very handy, especially on projects that you have a lot of passion for. In terms of being good at DIY on automotive, it can be a bit difficult, particularly if you do not have the right tools and equipment.

You really cannot weld two pieces of metal together and use that to hold the underside of a car as that is extremely dangerous. This is the reason why a lot of people who love to tinker around in their car gets discouraged as the equipment that can be purchased are either for heavy-duty work or for small jobs.

For that reason, it is great to invest in a garage floor jack, such as the Tonda Garage Floor Jack.

Tonda Garage Floor Jack Review

Features

  • Construction

This garage floor jack has casters that swivel as well as large casters that are made of steel. It is great that you swivel the caster because it makes it easier for you to maneuver the jack and make necessary adjustments while it is being used.

It has a frame that is made from welded steel, so what you get is a solid jack that you can look at as just a single component. Furthermore, it has a finish that makes it resistant to rusting; in this way, you can use it for a longer time.

The design is great for professionals, but it can also be used by people who do DIY projects. Accordingly, it can also be great for farm, shop, truck service, SUV, and auto services.

This floor jack has met the standards of the ASME/ANSI PALD. This means that it was tested in the factory for safety and security. Lastly, it is a good thing to note that it has wheels, so you do not have to carry it around.

  • Operation

You can easily take it anywhere with you as it was built for mobility. Although it has large canisters, it was still perfectly designed to maintain its lightness so that it can be easily moved or adjusted. It is compatible to be used with other attachments, and its operation is extremely simple.

All you have to do is to position it to the jack point and start cranking it up. It has its own locking mechanism, so you do not have to worry about slipping.

For some, they purchase another lockdown mechanism just to be on the very secure side. Just like what we mentioned before, it is very compatible with other tools, which means that it can attach easily to the jack.

  • Lift and Capacity

It has a maximum height of 33 centimeters or about 13 inches. Its minimum height is 13.5 centimeters, which is about five inches. As for its capacity, its two tons, which can approximately lift 5,000 to 15,000 pounds depending on your current operation.

  • Specifications

Product dimensions: 19 by 9.5 by 6.5 inches

Total weight: 20.1 pounds

Summary of the Features

The Tonda Garage Floor Jack was designed to be used by both professionals and beginners. It does not have a lot of capacity, but that was intentional as it was made that way for portability and for efficient storage.

Furthermore, this floor jack has a simplistic operation that even a child can master this tool. Keep in mind that it was not made for jobs that are heavy duty, so stay away from this one if you have a pick-up or a truck.

With that said, it is expected for it not to have such a great height. At the same time, it has a secure base and solid construction that you are assured it will not budge once locked.

In terms of performance, it can be improved immensely with the use of other attachments. It can still work fine on its own, but its default performance is not up to par with other heavier-duty garage floor jacks.

Comparison with the Arcan XL20 Service Jack

Let us now compare the Tonda Garage Floor Jack with the Arcan XL20 Service Jack. Both jacks are made of heavy-duty steel, and they also met the standards of the ASME PALD. However, the one from Arcan has a dual pump.

This means that lifting is more rapid and smooth. This is where the one from Tonda is lacking because you really have to exert a lot of pressure when lifting. More than that, the lever of the Tonda jack has the tendency to bend against extreme pressure. The one from Arca, though, can lift flawlessly without stressing the user too much.

Furthermore, it has a feature called the universal joint release mechanism, which can give you a lot of precision and control. This will be great when you want to adjust the jack while in the middle of the lifting process.

There is also a safety valve so that you will know if it is already overloaded. As for its maximum lifting height, it is about 18 1/2 inches, which is significantly greater than the maximum lifting height of the one from Tonda.

Verdict

With all of those in mind, which one is the better garage floor jack? For us, the Tonda Garage Floor Jack is still the better choice, especially in terms of being a beginner- or DIY-friendly gear.

It might have a so-so maximum lifting height, but that is just the right amount of height that you need when you are going to do small to medium jobs. Of course, since you know that this is not for heavy-duty jobs, you will not use this on heavier automobiles. So is this a jack that DIYers dream of? Definitely.
